Dog Eared 1/2 Price Books has been established for 30 years.

Our store is small and independently owned. We carry a small selection of new books and a wide variety of used books from many different genres.

Approximately 11 years ago (in 2000) the store was bought by Mr. Phil J., with the management (Tina, who has been here forever!) staying the same and two new additions of Dorothy and Connie in 2002. Shortly thereafter it was decided a name change was in order to reflect the new ownership. Thus, Fireside Books became Dog Eared 1/2 Price Books.

In the summer of '06, Page, one of our store "residents," passed away due to cancer. She was a beloved, yet finicky addition to the store, "sophisticated" Dorothy used to say. She's still missed by the staff as well as our customers.

When you visit you will be met by four store residents:
Pyewacket (Pye, Pye Pye, or Wacky for short), our black cat (named from Bell Book and Candle), who was Page's "brother." He's definitely a sweetie!

Harlee-Quinn (Harlequin...get it??? -- Harlee for short) is our orange and white cat. She has taken over where Page left off in the finicky department.

Charlotte Bronte is our slim and sleek gray cat. She is a bit of a loner, but if she decides to take a shine to you, um, let's just say you'll be well loved on.

And last but not least we have Stuart Woods (Stuie for short) who is our blonde cat. He is very much a lover. He is also the most vocal of beggers when it comes to us eating our lunch!

Of course many of the customers greet the cats before they greet us. We don’t know why. We’re sweet too. (Grin!)

The store is a warm and friendly place to come browse for books. There are many customers who feel comfortable enough to browse and shop for hours, even sit on the floor and get nudged by one or two of the cats.

Comments are made on the store's atmosphere, the ease in which our customers can talk about books, or simply anything else. It's that type of camaraderie we strive to develop with our customers, even though they do talk to the cats first.

Our customers love books and know we do, too. We are always happy to offer suggestions if you are in a reading slump; and as always, we are happy to talk about our favorite books and authors.
